where is the best vacation spot in NC or SC?
it would have to be on the coast, near the beaches, fairly quiet (not too crowded of an area), under $1000, and has villas or condos for rent. what is Edisto Island, SC like? what about the outer banks or crystal coast, NC?

It’s been a very long time since I was at Edisto, but I remember it being very nice. Might be a little pricey, but I was a kid when I visited so I’m not sure.
Practically anywhere on the NC coast is nice. I have been to Holden Beach a number of times, and it is a relatively quiet beach town. Oak Island is even quieter, though there are a few little businesses there. Both of these places are on the southern NC coast, sort of near Wilmington. All of the beaches I have been to are nice, clean, and pretty, with good swimming areas. The water deepens gradually and there is plenty of sandy area to walk on.
I hear that there are islands without development that have wild ponies further up the NC coast, but I’ve never been there. You might have to camp or stay in a nearby town.
A lot of people also visit the Nag’s Head area, about 1/2 way up the NC coast. There is a State Park there called Jockey’s Ridge where they have 100 foot sand dunes that you can roll down! It is fun.
Back to South Carolina–I forgot about the Beaufort area. There are several beautiful sea islands there. Lady’s Island or St. Helena Island might be a good place to look for a villa. Fripp Island probably has great ones, but it’s expensive. Beaufort is an old sea town with Spanish moss-draped trees and a lovely waterfront. If you go there, you can visit Hunting Island State Park to go to the beach (a small fee), which is a quiet and unspoiled beach with palm forests & all. It’s great. All of these islands are on one main road (Sea Island Parkway) going out of Beaufort.
I hope you enjoy your visit!
