Buried treasure….
Beaumont, Texas is certainly not what one would think of when talking about buried pirate treasure but a book by Frank J. Dobie ties it to some of the booty of the infamous pirate Jean Lafitte. As Jason Whitney the President of First Fidelity Reserve discovered when reading the book “Legends of Texas: Pirates’ Gold and Other Tales,” a famous meeting took place between two treasure hunters just a few miles from his First Fidelity Reserve office. These two individuals were named Meredith and Clawson. Clawson lived in Beaumont, Texas and was believed to have had encountered some terrible apparition when he was searching for Lafitte’s gold. Meridith begged Clawson to accompany him on one more adventure but Clawson refused.
The thought of hidden treasures make the heart beat faster. Images of chests of gold and jewels buried somewhere, just waiting to be found. Like Jean Lafitte’s treasure…..was what drove Clawson initially to search for that ill gotten fortune.
Jean Lafitte was a famous pirate who in the early 1800’s sailed from Grand Terre Island, south of New Orleans, Louisiana. Grand Terre was part of an area called Barataria and included all the lakes, bayous, swamps and bays south of New Orleans. An area perfect for piracy and smuggling….
A handsome man by all accounts, Lafitte reportedly exhibited great personal charm and became a legend in his own time, even more so with his patriotic actions in the Battle of New Orleans. Because he supplied American with cannons, munitions and trained gunners, he was pardoned for his nefarious deeds.
Unable to reclaim goods seized before he joined the American effort, Lafitte soured toward the United States. He established a new base in Galveston, which grew to around 1000, including outlaws from America, drawn to the profitable business of capturing Spanish ships.
However, the United States was determined to rout Lafitte from Galveston. Sensing an ending to his Gulf of Mexico operations, Lafitte began hiding his loot.
In 1821, when the schooner USS Enterprise approached Galveston and demanded that the privateering camp be destroyed, Lafitte left the island without a fight on his flagship, the Pride, burning his fortress and settlements and reportedly taking immense amounts of treasure with him. Stories abound that he died soon after, but what’s known is Lafitte faded from recorded history. All that remains of his lavishly furnished mansion, Maison Rouge, is the foundation, located at 1417 Avenue A near the Galveston wharf.
After Lafitte’s death, tales of his buried treasure abounded on the Louisiana and Texas coast. He was said to have made caches of loot in Galveston. Other stories told by a Lafitte slave had Lafitte’s hiding treasure along the Calcasieu and Mermenteau Rivers. Another very large cache is said to be at the Sabine River near a grove of gum tress, about 3 miles east of the Old Spanish Trail.
Coins from that era are found from time to time on Grand Terre, which is accessible only by boat. In 1915 a New Orleans worker uncovered a chest filled with more than 1,500 doubloons. In Gretna in 1960, across the river from New Orleans, many gold coins were uncovered in an area frequented by Lafitte and his men .In still another story, an unnamed island in Lake Borgne, east of New Orleans, is also said to hold buried treasure. People are still enamored by the thought of discovering a treasured coin and that is why Whitney feels his company First Fidelity Reserve deals with so many coin and bullion collectors

Everybody conciously or unconciously acts in life. Based on reel life,we use to play the reallife. Infact, what we see in reel is real itself but in somewhat hyperbolic mood and structure. Phuket is the Treasure of Thailand
The largest island in Thailand, Phuket is an enchanting destination, located about 850 km south of the nation’s capital, Bangkok, in the Andaman Sea. Phuket holds the distinction of being the only island in Phuket with provincial status.
Sometimes acknowledged as the ‘Pearl of the South,’ Phuket boasts of a long rich as well as colorful history dating back to more than 500 years ago. An eventful segment in the history of Phuket is the Battle of Thalang, in which the Burmese invaders were defeated by forces under the administration of two women.
Phuket is now categorized into three administrative regions: Amphoe Muang, Amphoe Kathu, and Amphoe Thalang. Al though Phuket has now become a thriving tourist center, it still preserves its old world charm, and come with an incredible array of attractions comprising imposing gorgeous coves and bays, long stretch of palm-fringed beaches, tiny estuaries, beautiful lagoons, lush green mountains, scintillating waterfalls, and age-old mansions reflecting Indo-Portuguese architecture.
Much of the Phuket’s glory lies in its beautiful white sandy beaches. Majority of the top beaches in the areas such as Kamala Beach – an excellent area for relaxation, Patong Beach – most vibrant among the beaches in the area, and Karon Beach, located south of Patong Beach, are situated in the western coastline.
Popular beaches in the area also include Kalim Beach, an isolated beach dotted with coral reefs and rocks; Kata Beach consisting of Kata Noi and Kata Yai beaches; Nai Han Beach, which is much favored for its white powdery sand and azure blue waters; Rawai Beach, a pristine beach whose surroundings are home to Chao Le people; and Mai Khao Beach, also known as the Airport Beach. Each of the beaches in the area is enchanting, and is a haven to enjoy a continuum of water sport activities such as fishing, kayaking, diving, snorkeling, rafting, sailing, scuba diving, and more.
However, the activities that can be enjoyed in Phuket are not restricted to water sport activities. For instance, if you are a golf freak, excellent choices are available for you in the form of Dino Park, an 18-hole mini-golf course located on Karon Beach; golf course in Hat Surin built during the reign of King Rama VII; and Log Palm Golf Club near Amphoe Krathu. Besides, superb options are available to enjoy activities such as mountain biking, trekking, bungy jumping, nature walks, and hiking.
When comes to sightseeing, options are truly diverse and endless. For example, a tour to historical sites including Old China Town, packed with stunning Sino-Portuguese mansions, would be a refreshing experience. Likewise, to have a peep into the history of the region, a best way would be visit the interesting museums in the region such as Thalang National Museum and Phuket Sea Shell Museum.
Phuket also provides a feast of attractions to wild life and nature lovers, such as, Khao Phra Thaeo National Park boasting of unique flora and fauna; Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, with thousands of varied species of butterflies; Promthep Cape, from where one can savor the incredible views of the sunset; and Marine Biological Research Centre, an aquarium with a variety of rare fish species.
A visit to Phuket would be incomplete without taking a tour to its ancient shrines including Wat Chalong – one of the biggest shrines in the region; Wat Phranangsang, devoted to two heroines who defeated the Burmese invaders in the Battle of Thalang; and Wat Phra Thong, whose centerpiece is a large half buried image of the Lord Buddha.
Nightlife in Phuket is really sedative, with hundreds of girlie bars, nightclubs, pubs, disco clubs, and go-go bars. Similarly, dining options available in Phuket is endless, consisting of an array of restaurants serving everything from excellent Thai dishes to sumptuous western style cuisines. Additionally, Phuket is a shopper’s paradise, with a plethora of markets, department stores, street stalls, and specialist shops, apart from a large night bazaar.
Above all, accommodation options are aplenty in Phuket, ranging from world-class hotels and resorts to elegant tropical style villas and bungalows. No matter you are looking for budget accommodation or one with luxurious amenities, Phuket has accommodation to suit every taste and pocket. With the introduction of the internet, it has now become quite easy to find a hotel in Phuket that go with your requirements. Many of them provide options to book hotel rooms and other facilities online.
With these scores of attractions and a plenty of accommodation options, make your vacation in Phuket memorable.

Jamaica: the Treasure Island of the Caribbean
Jamaica. You are sitting in your cubicle bored to death with a tedious office job when suddenly this word just pops up in your head promising you a distant paradise surrounded by the blue waters of Caribbean. You start dreaming about your next vacation and go online to book an all inclusive package. Jamaica, wait for me — I’ll be coming soon!
Your flight lands in Montego Bay and you are plunged into the hectic atmosphere of the airport crowded by the hordes of tourists: groups, couples and families. A jolly tune of a steel drum band welcomes you and so do hundreds of merchants trying to sell you almost everything: beer, cool drinks, newspapers, souvenirs. They greet you in the Jamaican manner: ‘Yah Mon’ (yeah man), ‘Y’allright?’ (are you all right?), ‘Whaapen’ (what’s happening?).
Finally you find the resort representative. ‘No worries mon,’ says he while helping you whith your luggage. Now brace yourself, the ride to your resort is about to star. The bus driver seems to have no regard to his, yours or pedestrians life and if you are motion sickness prone — you’d better get a paper bag ready. Oh no, he seems to be driving the wrong side of the street! ‘No worries mon’, it’s a tradition the Brits left here. By the way, this is a good reason not to rent a car in Jamaica.
Once you left the airport park you start noticing contrasts. The stunning Blue Mountains are surely a breathtaking view. But they are also a backdrop of the striking poverty reminding you that you are in a third world country. Shacks built of rusty metal and some unrecognizable materials occupy the sides of the road. They are homes for thousands of Jamaicans, and while you drive by you see some of them doing their daily business or simply sitting in the shade and relaxing.
You arrive to your resort which again is a striking contrast to what you have seen on your way there. Most Jamaican hotels are examples of luxury and comfort which are reflected in their far above average prices. You will find the resort staff friendly and welcoming. Let them care about your luggage and go to the nearby diner to enjoy some of the best food in Caribbean.
‘Nyam’ is Jamaican for ‘to eat’. Jamaicans are well known meat-eaters and their favorite dishes are jerk chicken and pulled pork. Patties are also delicious, filled with meat and vegetables, sometimes too hot and spicy. Be careful — most traditional dishes have bones in them, don’t be shy to pick them out of your mouth and place them on the side of your plate, everybody does so.
Be sure to try two famous brands of Jamaica: Blue Mountais Coffee and Red Stripe Beer. And don’t miss the awesome liquor they have there: Pimento Dram.
If you want to have some shopping fun, go to a local market, like the one in Ocho Rios. Enjoy the whirling atmosphere of a Jamaican marketplace where hundreds of merchants are desperately trying to sell you things you’d never need. Some will meet you before you get into their booth and take you inside constantly talking and piling one item on another into your face.
Jamaica’s gems are not just white beaches or glorious nature. Jamaican people, vibrant and friendly folk are the true treasure of the island. Good buy Jamaica, Jah Bless, Likkle more, I’ll be coming back soon!

Located in the Fujian province of China, Xiamen is an exiting place to visit if you’re a travel fanatic. A unique mix of native and overseas Chinese culture enriches the already thriving cultural diversity of this oriental city. This coastal city is one of the more quiet places in China that tourists have the pleasure of visiting. Home to a number of famous attractions, Xiamen is most renowned for Gulangyu Island and the Overseas Chinese Museum. With major international presences haunting the past of Xiamen, this remarkable city has also been honored by being nominated as one of the most suitable places to live in China. Despite keeping a low profile, Xiamen is a major contributor to the fast growing Chinese economy and is a favorite destination for a large number of foreign investors.
Covering an area of 50,000 square meters, the Xiamen Overseas Chinese Museum is a venue that highlights the proud heritage of overseas Chinese. This magnificent palace like structure is divided into three main exhibition halls: the Hall of Relics of Motherland’s History, the Hall of Nature and the Hall of History of Overseas Chinese.
The Hall of Relics of Motherlands History houses a fascinating collection of extremely valuable relics and artwork form ancient times. Thousands of pottery, bronze ware, sculptures and paintings from past dynasties are also found within these walls. The Hall of Nature exhibits a number of animal species ranging from mammals to birds and even showcases a variety of plants as well. The Hall of History of Overseas Chinese exhibits a number of artifacts that examine the history of overseas Chinese prior to and after the liberation.
Xiamen is also home to Gulangyu Island where gorgeous colonial buildings are plentiful and automotive environmental pollution is non existent purely because the use of vehicles is not allowed. This is a perfect getaway destination for those of us who just want to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Guests can find a Xiamen hotel practically anywhere in the city but Millennium Harbourview Hotel Xiamen offers unparallel services and a full range of amenities for a memorable stay.
The Cape Cod National Seashore Treasure
Take a captivating trip through Massachusetts’ Cape Cod National Seashore Park. With miles of splendid white sand beaches, inspiring walks and trails, and stunning fragile dunes, the park is a remarkable geological wonder thousands of years in the making. Just keep reading and you can visit it right here…
The Cape Cod National Seashore is a 4,308-acre park 60 miles south of Boston, Massachusetts. It was set aside by an act of congress in 1961 to preserve and protect a unique geological area and wild life habitat of New England. Cape Cod was formed when the last of the great glaciers melted about 12,000-years ago leaving a large lake, which eventually drained exposing the sediment and deposits left by the glaciers from earlier times.
Nature has reshaped the whole of Cape Cod especially the Atlantic-facing National Seashore area, and it continues to this very day. But this is the place to come to escape. This is the place to come to experience nature, especially off-season. So let’s take a brief Cape Cod vacations trip together. Are you ready?
NAUSET BEACH
The first stop on your trip is Nauset Beach in the town of Orleans. This is a striking beach to walk and see the relentless work of nature. The Atlantic storms batter the dunes each winter and beach erosion is a major problem here. Protection is the name of the game at Nauset not just for the dunes, but the birds nesting in the spring. Always pay close attention to erosion and bird nesting protection signs anywhere during your trip to Cape Cod.
The entrance to Nauset beach is located in East Orleans at the end of Beach Road, where there’s a large parking lot. The lot is about 2 miles from Routes 6/6A, and during the summer months you’ll pay to use it.
NATIONAL SEASHORE EASTHAM VISITORS CENTER
The National Seashore has two visitor centers. The Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham will orientate you to the park, and provides short films, a museum, and free maps for hiking and biking trails. The salt pond itself is a glacial kettle pond that was once freshwater but the ocean has seeped through. Take time to discover the easy-walking trails near the pond, and learn about the varied birds and plants the area supports.
THE LIGHTHOUSE BEACHES
These next two beaches are very popular and during the summer the parking lots fill up quickly. Many people use their bicycles to get to these locations – plenty of parking for bikes and the price is right – free!
Coast Guard Beach in Eastham can be reached by bike from the bike trail from the Salt Pond Visitor Center, or by car from Nauset Road off Route 6 directly after the Visitor Center. This beach is a favorite walk of mine at low tide, and was the area where Henry Beston wrote “The Outermost House.” Sadly the blizzard of 1978 washed the cottage where he lived while writing the book – out to sea.
Nauset Light Beach can be reached from Brackett Road also off Route 6. Overlooking the beach is the red and white picturesque Nauset Lighthouse. Originally built in Chatham in the late 19th century, it was moved here shortly after, and moved again in 1996 when erosion of the cliff threatened to collapse the lighthouse. This beach is popular for the imposing and towering cliffs.
GREAT ISLAND HIKE IN WELLFLEET
The Great Island hike in Wellfleet is a 6-mile hike, so allow yourself at least half-a-day to explore this wonderful area. Located on the Cape Cod Bay side of the Cape in Wellfleet, drive to the trailhead off Chequesset Neck Road, and prepare yourself -and camera – for an exhilarating hike.
This is a real nature hike. There’s no sandwich bar or coke machine waiting for you at the end, so take your own snacks and drinks. Of all the trails in the Cape Cod National Seashore Park, this is perhaps the most remote – and I like that!
NATIONAL SEASHORE PROVINCE LANDS VISITOR CENTER
The second of the visitor centers in the National Seashore Park is in Province Lands off Route 6 and on Race Point Road. This is the northern extremity of the park, and is the final stop on our brief Cape Cod National Seashore tour.
The Visitor Center has an observation deck where you can view the ocean, Province Lands forest, and the towering dunes. Province Lands is jam-packed with swimming beaches, a bike trail, a walking trail, and a beautiful lighthouse at Race Point. Take time to tour this area and enjoy this unique area of the Cape.
Cape Cod National Seashore is one of the most popular summer vacation destinations in New England. But in my book it’s a great place to visit anytime of the year. If you’re prepared to explore and walk a bit you can discover your own secluded and pristine piece of Cape Cod.
