How can I not waste the rest of my summer vacation?

My work at a summer camp is over, and I am bored out of my mind. All my friends, except for a couple, are on vacation, college trips, or summer service. I have nothing to do, and I really don’t want to waste this summer! I live in the suburbs, so there is nothing exciting going on here. please help!

Lake Mendocino is a wide open space with excellent day use areas, and great camping – my little family sometimes camps at the Kyen Campground, lake-side, but there are many other camping options at the lake, too. Some are so remote you can only each them by boat, hiking, or horseback. Kyen is not the quietest campground ever, as it’s SUPER accessible – right off the 20, just east of the 101. To this mom, that accessibility is a big plus, tho! The basic benefits are obvious; the allure of watery fun on a hot summer day, kids playing joyfully instead of being “bored to death” by summer vacation, having the quiet, simple time to sit still, meditate, do out-door yoga, or read in the shade of the beautiful oak trees. Ahhh. Sounds good! However, the fun doesn’t stop there; there’s plenty to do at Lake Mendocino. At Kyen, some evenings the rangers offer fun shows for the kids about wildlife, forest and water safety, and environmental awareness. At many points around the lake, there are docks for boating and other water-toys (not my gig, really, but it’s there if you want it!), hiking trails (much more my speed), and even horseback trails. If you wanna camp at Kyen, reserve your site early. The campground often fills during the busy season. Site #103 is beautiful, and though I have YET to register early enough to reserve it, I swear, next time that little paradise is MINE!
