Kauai Condos: Learn The History, Feel The Present, Wonder About The Future

If you’re opting to rent or buy one of the many beautiful Kauai condos, you likely already know that you are treating yourself to residence on one of the most beautiful and unique places on Earth. That said, you’d be surprised how many people visit this incredible Garden Isle paradise without truly understanding the historical context of how it came to be what it is today. Taking the time to understand that context will enrich your experience on Kauai, no matter how long you plan to stay!

The landscape diversity under the foundations of your Kauai condo

Like all the Hawaiian islands, Kaua’i was made by volcanoes pushing up, out of the sea. As the oldest island in the chain, its mountain tops don’t boast the height or size of its younger neighbors on the Big Island, but there is one claim to fame that sets Kauai apart from anywhere else: The eastern slopes of Kauai’s second highest mountain, Mount Wai’ale’ale, are one of the wettest spots on Earth – with over 460 inches of rain per yer!

Don’t worry though. Kaua’i is not all rain. Kaua’i actually has seven different distinct micro climates ranging from dry desert to tropical rain forest – Giving you a lot of options in terms of weather variations in the process of selecting the perfect Kauai vacation home or condo to lease or purchase.

Understanding your lineage as a Kauai homeowner

Culturally, Kauai is very diverse as well. The Marquesans are believed to be the island’s first inhabitants, arriving from Polynesia around 400 A.D. 600 years later, the Tahitians arrived and overpowered the locals who called the island home. Much of the plant life, as well as the chickens that are ancestors to the scourge you currently see in Kauai, were originally brought by the Polynesian peoples.

This island’s ruler, Kaumuali’i, managed to twice thwart invasion from King Kamehameha, even going so far as to negotiate with the Russians in an effort to maintain independence. In 1824, Kaua’i was formally surrendered upon his death to the Kingdom of Hawaii to shun further atrocities.

The first well recorded European contact came in 1778 when Captain Cook landed in Waimea Bay. Starting in the mid-18th century, sugar plantations were Kauai’s most important industry, and opened the way for the waves of immigrants, whose ancestors make up Kauai’s multicultural population today.

Kauai originally had its own dialect, thought to be closer to its Polynesian origins than the other islands, and managed independence for so long in part because of its 1000-ft cliffs ringing the Na Pali Coast, a place that is accessible only by hiking, boat or helicopter even today!

Today, buying or renting Kauai condos means that you will take part in a line of paradise-seeking people dating back over a thousand years. Each era has left its mark, and if you understand what you’re looking at, there is nothing quite like hiking the Na Pali Coast or standing at an overlook on Waimea Canyon and envisioning history unfolding on this Eden-like island in the middle of the Pacific!

It is an undeniable fact that your vacations can be made much more comfortable just by including a camping hammock in your equipment. Camping hammocks have always been there, but, the interest of people is building up because of the comfort factor associated with hammocks. Since a modern day portable hammock is lightweight, so, it is fast becoming popular. In fact, it is not hard to find a portable hammock or hammock chair in a garden.

Undoubtedly, there are lots of advantages of using hammocks like you can keep your back in comfortable position, keep insects away from you and many more. But, do you really know something about the history of your comfy hammock? Probably not and that’s the reason why it is worth taking a look at it.

Evolution of Hammocks:

There are lots of countries like Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador, Brazil and Nicaragua, where hammocks have always been used as an essential object. In these countries, hammocks have been used for more than 900 years which is truly fascinating. However, it is thought that hammocks were actually introduced by Mayan Indians in Central America about 1000 years ago. Bark of the hammock tree was used to weave these hammocks. Cotton was next to be used to weave these hammocks because bark of hammock tree was not comfortable enough. Since cotton hammocks was not weatherproof, so, need to introduce some other fabric was very much there.

Hammocks made of canvas cloth were introduced by Europeans which were basically designed for navy. But, these narrow and wood staved hammocks were not too comfortable which gave rise to modern day hammocks.

Today, you can find several companies producing hammocks in all designs, shapes, colors and materials and that is what implies that hammocks are here to stay. So, do get one for you as well.

The two best options for hammock purchase:

Although it is not hard to find several manufacturers offering hammocks in today’s world, but, there are some of the very best in the business. Two amongst those are mentioned below and you can always consider them to fulfill all your needs related to hammocks as they have reached to the heights of quality through dedication and passion.

Hatteras Hammocks: Hatteras Hammock can really be considered as the best option because of several good reasons. The biggest reason is that they have everything that you need like single and double swings, rope and fabric hammocks, and all types of stands.

Similarly, it is also useful to buy hammock with rain canopy and bug net along with a suitable hammock stand. Finally, take special care while hanging a rope hammock because rope hammocks need to be tied in the right way with right trees.

Guanaja, Learn Why!

Copyright (c) 2008 Denise Clarke

Guanaja Honduras, a Bay Island paradise, located in Central America may be the next HOT SPOT for affordable retirement. Many Baby Boomers are now at retirement age and others are just looking to retire early, but how? The economy is sluggish and the US dollar has reached all time lows. They have workedhard to save for their golden years and now, faced with this financial crisis, the golden part is now tarnished and we are just left with years.

The question is,what are we, the new “old folks” really looking for in retirement? How about warm tropical breezes and the pristine blue waters of the Caribbean Sea? Would you like to trade in that rocking chair on the porch for a hammock swinging gently under some rustling palm trees or the clicking of knitting needles for the ZING of fishing line? We may be getting older, but our generation is healthier than ever, and we still want a little adventure in our lives!

Guanaja, a small island off the coast of Honduras, may just be the answer. Land is still inexpensive on this little island paradise and, so far, it has managed to fly under the mainstream radar screen as far major land developers.

Do you dream of a seaside cottage where you can walk out your front door and take a leisurely stroll down the beach or maybe a cabana on a hillside where you can cultivate orchids and pineapples? Guanaja has both! The highest point on the island is sixteen hundred feet and in addition it has many fresh water waterfalls with terrific drinking water. It also boasts the world’s second largest barrier reef which protects the tiny island from large wave action and along with this reef come the colorful fish and live corals that would keep any diver or snorkeler happy for years to come!

Fish, did I hear you ask about fish? Less than three miles offshore, the Caribbean Sea drops off to thousands of feet. Billfish, tuna, dolphin, wahoo and a myriad of other migratory fish cruise these deep blue waters waiting for an anxious angler to troll by and then there are bonefish in the flats around the island. There is something for every type of fisher person. What about birds? Look out your door and see a riot of colorful parrots flying from tree to tree and hummingbirds, those tiny flying jewels, flitting from feeder to feeder. With enough patience these tiny birds will feed right from your hand held dish!

Affordable retirement should also include the option to hire help at a reasonable rate. To employ household help or grounds keeper is about one hundred and fifty US dollars per month and they soon fit right into the family.

Medical care in the form of walk in clinics is available on the island and for bigger emergencies, the hospital in La Ceiba is only forty miles by boat or air. Many of these physicians have been trained in the United States or Cuba and the healthcare is extremely reasonable. A friend who was recently playing soccer was hit in the head with the ball leaving a two inch gash. A visit to the walk in clinic where he was examined, x-rayed, stitched up and given medications for infection and pain. The bill totaled three dollars, YIKES!

If you are looking to live large, and are up for a bit of adventure and on a pristine Caribbean island, Guanaja Honduras may indeed be your affordable retirement spot.
