Experience something special – getting married in Thailand

For some, the idea of planning a traditional western wedding can send shivers down their spine. From venue hire to spiralling costs and guest lists, it can sometimes overwhelm even the most organised and level-headed of people. To help combat the stresses and strains of such a momentous occasion, many couples are choosing to get married abroad, with Thailand being a particularly popular and exciting location to exchange your vows.

The advantages of having your wedding abroad could be quite surprising to some. Firstly, the cost of the whole event is usually a lot less than a traditional wedding at home. The average cost of a UK wedding broke the £20,000 mark in 2008, but the average wedding in Thailand is only a small fraction of this, with many hotels and resorts offering free wedding packages if you agree to stay for a certain number of nights. Obviously prices vary depending on where you stay and how many friends and family you pay for, but the whole wedding and honeymoon package could be as low as a few thousand pounds.

One of the deciding factors for many is the weather abroad, which is usually a bit more predictable than the UK and quite a bit warmer. Thailand has an equatorial climate in the extreme south and a tropical monsoon climate in the centre and north of the country. This means it can be quite important to get your dates right. Most of the rainfall will be between May to October each year. This can get quite heavy, but there is still an average of five hours of sunshine during this period. The driest months are November to April and the hottest in April and May. The wet season is probably best avoided, it will be cheaper but the mix of heat and humidity can be quite oppressive.

Some couples might want to ship their whole collection of friends and family out with them to enjoy their special day, but that can be expensive unless everyone is willing to tie the wedding in with a holiday. Thailand weddings are best enjoyed as small and intimate affairs or for second marriages where the relaxed personal experience and the gathering of a few close friends and family members is much more attractive than a costly reception with many guests you hardly even know.

Most tour operators will brief you on everything you need to arrange before your trip to the Far East. It is worth noting that a registered marriage for UK and Irish citizens is legally binding in the UK. You should try to book as far in advance as possible as dates can get snapped up quickly and some resorts will need up to 12 weeks notice. You also want to make sure there is enough availability for any friends and family who are coming with you. Documents can also take some time to be processed so it is wise not to leave anything to the last minute.

It is not hard to see why many people choose to take themselves to Thailand to enjoy their special day and honeymoon. The country is so diverse and has so much to offer with stunning landscapes, mountainous areas, rugged jungles, exotic beaches and bustling cities. Some of the most popular locations for Thailand holidays, honeymoons and weddings are the islands of Koh Samui, Koh Phi Phi and Phuket where you can choose from a number of luxury resorts and spas with stunning white sandy beaches and spectacular views from beachside accommodation. What better way could you spend your wedding day than on a paradise island with your closet friends and family?

Experience the Incredibility of Hong Kong Island

Hong Kong is one of the world’s most thrilling destinations. A special administrative region of People’s Republic of China (PRC), Hong Kong has the Pearl River Delta to the east, Guangdong Province to the north, and the South China Sea to the west and south. A typical trading village until the 19th century, Hong Kong became a crown colony of the Britain in 1842, which was later handed over to the People’s Republic of China in 1997.

Hong Kong is now an exciting destination, with a thriving blend of ancient eastern traditions and western modernism. Hong Kong enjoys a liberal system and has its own monetary system, legal system, and customs and immigration policies.

The city of Hong Kong consists of three sections: Hong Kong Island, which is regarded as the heart of the city; Kowloon, which has to its credit attractions such as the Tsim Sha Tsui and the Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple; and the New Territories and Outlying Islands such as Lantau Island, Lamma Island, and Cheung Chau Island. Discussed further in this article are some of the hot spots in Hong Kong Island.

Once a flat lying area that was considered worthless, Hong Kong Island has now become a busy financial as well as commercial center of this special administrative region. Situated to the south of the mainland China, this is the area of the original settlement of the British, and still continues to be a prominent hub of business as well as commerce. The greatest of the attraction in the island is undoubtedly the bustle of thousands of people of living and working here. The island has been categorized into central district, southern district, and western district.

The central area of the island is regarded as the economic, political, and historical center of Hong Kong, and boasts of such attractions as the Bank of China Tower – a 360 meters tall structure designed by the world-famous architect, I M Pei; Jardine House, alternatively known as the ‘House of a Thousand Orifices;’ Exchange Square, a shiny tower which houses the Hong Kong Stock Exchange; Li Yuen Street, packed with a range of shops and stalls selling items such as fabrics and fashion accessories; and Queen’s Road Central.

When comes to the southern area of the island, the area is filled with a variety of mesmerizing attractions. Of which, one of the most prominent is Aberdeen, a harbor town that provides great options to enjoy amazing sea life.

Another prominent attraction in the area is Tin Hau Temple, built in 1851 and which is located at the site from where the town of Aberdeen at its best. Also, a must-visit attraction in the area is Ocean Park. Spread across an area of about 170 acres of land, Ocean Park comprises two sections such as low land site and headland site, both of which are connected by a 1.5 kilometers cable-car bridge. Among the highlights of the park are Atoll Reef, the world’s largest aquarium, an amusement park with a variety of interesting slides, Film Fantasia, and the Ancient World, which is an adventure trail.

Situated to the west of Central area, the Western District, as the name suggests, is more or less influenced by the western culture. Most prominent among the attractions in this area is the Central Market, which consists of such attractions as the CRC Department Store, where you can shop items such as Chinese artifacts as well as clothing.

Highlights of the region also cover Hillside Escalator – the longest outdoor escalator in the world; Hollywood Road – a street which is famed for its antique as well as furniture shops; Fung Ping Shan Museum, located within the grounds of the University of Hong Kong and which has on display ancient Chinese art and craft; and Morrison Street – a historical red brick building built in Edwardian style.

No visit to the island is complete without taking a tour to Victoria Peak, also known as the Peak. This area is perhaps the most eye-catching landmark of the city. During the first five to six years of the history of Hong Kong, no one traveled up here. With the opening of the Peak Tramway in 1888, the area became popular and came to be known as the Peak. The Peak Tramway is still operational and takes people up and down the hillside. The Peak is also one of the most significant residential areas in Hong Kong.

Above all, the attractions within the area of the Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, such as Admiralty, formerly a British naval station; Hung Shing Temple, which is named after an official of the Tang Dynasty; Pak Tai Temple, an impressive triple hall shrine built in 1863; and Hopewell Centre – a 66 storey building.

In fact, Hong Kong Island is home to majority of the attractions in the city. Perhaps for this reason, tourists in increasing number flock to this region. Therefore, the island has accommodation choices to cater to every preference and budget.

A Faroe Islands Vacation For a Truly Unique Experience

Have you ever been to the Faroe Islands?

Finding a unique holiday or vacation destination has become something of a game amongst those with easy money to spend. The famous where are you going this year question becomes ever more competitive year by year. But if you take a vacation to the Faroe Islands then you really are going to trump most of your friends.

The Faroe Islands are a cluster of eighteen small isles in the North Atlantic. They sit half way between Norway and Iceland to the north west of Scotland. With a population of about fifty thousand people they are home to a thriving and bustling community. The Faroes have about seven hundred miles of coast line so – no matter where you are – you’ll never be more than a mile or two from the sea. The locals have garnered a bad reputation with conservationists in the past because of their fondness for whale meat and whale products, but if you can leave that to one side then you really won’t visit a more friendly country anywhere in the world.

Don’t expect a sun tan if you head for these remote islands – wind burn or rain damage is more likely. The temperatures in summer average around eleven degrees – although the gulf stream helps ensure that winters are not as cold as they are on Iceland or in Scandinavia. In truth however, and jokes aside, most days in summer are mild and dry, and if it does rain the geography means that it often blows past quite quickly.

Most natives speak some English – particularly in the younger age groups – and the scandinavian languages are generally well understood.

OK … so why would you want to take a vacation in this most remote location? Well, in truth, the main attraction is the friendly people and the warm local culture. Folk culture and tradition is very strong and their are open dances and festivals of dance and music all year long. The country hosts two major open air rock festivals each year. Food on the Faroes is certainly an experience. Mutton is popular and of course fish is omnipresent. Even sea birds make it onto some local dinner plates.

Travel to the region is not difficult. You can go by ferry from Scrabster in northern Scotland all year round and from Denmark and Iceland in the summer months. Cheap flights are available from London, Aberdeen and from Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Sweden. Scrabster is a fishing port on Scotland’s most northernly coast – not too far from the town of Wick and accessible by road from all parts of the UK. Cheap flights are available from UK air operators and it’s not difficult to find deals if you search online.

Don’t forget that the Faroe Islands are part of the “lands of the midnight sun” and in June or July have almost no hours of darkness. They also provide an excellent location to see the northern lights of the aurora borealis.

Take a trip to the Faroes – you’ll have a vacation experience to remember for the rest of your life.
